  Choi, chi-won(崔致遠) realized his ideas in his home-land, after his studying in Tang(唐) dynasty. In oder to comprehend his activity, we have to inquire into Choi, chi-won"s portrait of a course of finding knowledge.
  Choi, chi-won was a son of Choi, gyon-il(崔肩逸); and monk Hyon-jun(賢俊) was his brother, Choi, in-yon(崔仁渷), Choi, seo-won(崔栖遠) were closely cousins. They possessed high attainment in Confucianism and Buddhism with the perception of the civilization of Tang dynasty as Tribute-student(宿衛學生) and a learned priest individually. Also the royal family of King Kyongmun(景文王) had an aspiration to enhance-sovereign power; they desired to form intimacy with the Choi, chi-won and his family; he pursued knowledge in Tang society, made utmost exertion to enter the government service.
  Choi, chi-won worked on his scholarly activities at the National Confucian Academy(國子監) in Luoyang(洛陽; the east capital in the Tang Dynasty), and he passed in the examination, the Literary licentiate examination(進士試), or the Tribute-literary licentiate(賓貢進士), as he was a foreign student.
  He was nominated, as a subordinate official, but he was not satisfied with the official post, so, applied for an advanced examination, testing of extensive learning and splendid writing(博學宏詞).
  And yet, he was badly off ; on account of a revolt of Huang-chao(黃巢), which put an end to his exam preparation For that reason, Choi, Chi-won put himself in charge of Gao-pian(高騈), the local government of huainan(淮南) province, put down a Huang-chao"s riot, after all, at Gao-pian"s request, and assumed charge as superintendent of literary letters. At that time, Choi, chi-won had composing official document for Gao-pian, particularly, criticizing official document of huang-chao"s revolt to the Tang emperor(檄黃巢書) and gained fame for his excellent composition.
  Huainan province where Choi, chi-won took an active role was a region of exchange of envoys between in two countries. He achieved a international reputation, Choi, chi-won thought he would become a success in Silla society as a matter of course, occupying his mind that he would obtain rank and return to his father-land, Silla. He carried out a plan to study the Chinese classics and history to enter higher government service which was what his fathers wanted, naturally. Consequently, his academic character headed for a upholding a royal authority spontaneously.
