초록

Park Geuk-Chae and Yun Haeng-Jung were Marxist economists in the mid 1930s, and they came to support the Japanese policy of economic control after the Sino-Japanese war. At the time, throughout the world, Liberalism Economy was being transformed into monopoly capitalism, or into a controlled economy, because of its own shortcomings and internal contradictions. And in the wake of such changes, the economic theory of totalitarianism and the economic theory of Socialism were being merged in a very unnatural form. What made this merge possible was an external factor, namely the war. The liberation of Joseon brought some exciting prospects regarding the construction of a national economy for the Korean people to the intellectuals of Joseon. Park Geuk-Chae and Yun Haeng-Jung were counting on the formation of an international
anti-fascist popular front, based upon the cooperation of U.S. and U.S.S.R.. And they also aspired for the construction of a nation for the Korean people, which would be based upon an anti-imperialism national unified front.
As the cold war between the U.S. and U.S.S.R. began, and domestic conflicts between the Left wing and Right wing parties in Korea were heating up, Park Geuk-Chae and Yun Haeng-Jung participated in the establishment of the North Korean regime, in order to realize their dreams of constructing a nation for the Korean people. During the 1950s, Yun Haeng-Jung forecasted the peaceful transition to Socialism, and argued the necessity of establishing and maintaining a national unified front engulfing both the South and North parts of the Korean peninsula. But in the end, Yun Haeng-Jung was expelled from the government in the form of a political purge. It is uncertain what happened to Park Geuk-Chae, but the fact that most of his comrades who walked the same path with him from the old days of the South Joseon Labor party days were summarily purged as well, and the fact that his theory of 'Feudal State ownership' became an object of criticism in the North Korean academic society, tell us that it is highly unlikely that he would have met an amicable end even he had continued his works throughout the 1950s. Park Geuk-Chae and Yun Haeng-Jung were graduates of the Imperial university who majored in Marxist economic theories, and around the time of liberation they conducted various forms of ideological attempts regardless of boundaries of nations and social classes, and their disappearance from actions truly symbolized the end of an era, which started with a formation of an empire and ended with its collapse.
