This paper discusses the strengths and adhesion of polymer-modified mortars as surface preparation materials for floor topping with polymer mortar. The polymer-modified mortars for surface preparation of polymer mortar are prepared with 0, 10, 20% of polymer-cement ratios, and tested for flexural and compressive strengths, adhesion in tension. As a results, the flexural and compressive strengths of polymer-modified mortars using polymer dispersion are excellent than those of epoxy- or redispersible polymer powder-modified mortars. The adhesion in tension and failure mode distribution of the polymer-modified mortars remarkably depends on the primers. The polymer-modified mortars can be used as surface preparation materials for floor topping with polymer mortar.
