It is a meaningful work to research on the various details of pleat decoration techniques shown on a fashion collection in terms of a fashion design and a development of applicable decoration technique. There is also a need to review how the techniques for pleat decorations have been applied to contemporary fashion in order to understand the contemporary fashion and to present its direction for further developments. Moreover, this study is expected to be adopted as a groundwork for the application of a series of new pleat decoration techniques in a fashion design.
For this purpose, this study covers a class of pleat decorations which are the most various techniques in the decoration. Additionally, this also touches the different techniques of the pleats shown in the western and contemporary fashion in order to review how they have been applied.
The research methods of this study focus on the literature reviews referred to books and theses. Visual materials such as videos and pictures are also supplementarily used. For the cases of contemporary fashion, the works applying the pleat decoration techniques presented in the web-site materials and collection magazines are also adopted.
