I focus to study Park, Wan-suh's Similar Rooms, and Lee, Dong-ha's A Roar of Laughter. I study how the apartment complex, which has enter the Korean stage as a strange space, affects for the change of sensibility of the subject by the theme of 'private freedom'.
The space of apartment, which is uniformly constructed, speaks for the averaged enormous consuming system of contemporary capitalistic society. The uniformed way of life tends to be impersonalize the subject by urging the competitiveness for average life. Writers present the problem of uniformity and of anonimity, and they specially show the strong, creative will for those matters.
The historical experiences of urbanization in Korea at the age of 1960s and of 1970s are latent for contemporary Korean urban people in perverted substance. However, the desire for exclusive possession can find the possibility for cure by the reflection for the past. In constructing the urban space, the democratic practice by the civil group has to be projected more positive, and the public space for community traits have to be created.
