The purpose of this study is to analyze remodeling designs and their processes in two deteriorated apartment cases, and especially to find out residents' needs about remodeling designs, and how remodeling designs are influenced residents' needs. This is a previously elementary study, which suggests a direction of next study on evaluation and diagnostication method for apartment remodeling design in Korea.
For this study, first, remodeling design plans and details of two cases are examined by document survey, and the present conditions of case apartments are examined by field survey. Second, interview survey are executed with architects and participants of two cases. Interview question articles are contained ⅰ)aims of remodeling, ⅱ)remodeling designs realized, ⅲ)residents' participation for remodeling design.
The selection of apartments are based upon year of construction, design plans, possibility of interview and field survey. First case, Mapo-Yonggang Apartment, is located in Mapo-gu, Seoul, Korea, and the first example of private-initiated apartment remodeling in Korea being controlled Korea National Housing Corporation as a model. Another case, La Nacelle Apartment, is located in Essonne, France, which already was remodeled in 1991. The design for second remodeling of La Nacelle Apartment being made in progress in 2004. Field survey and interview survey were executed from June to August, 2004.
