Media have a great influence on the formation of Korean modern poetry. And yet the evaluation of ‘Gum-sung’ and its poets standing for ‘magazine for poetry’ among media in the early 1920s ware not relatively enough. Especially, the study on Baek Ki-man, a colleague of ‘Gum-sung’, was not relatively enough, compared to other poets in 1920s. Therefore, this study chiefly focused on the whole literature activities of Baek Ki-man in 1920s.
He planned media like ‘Gum-sung’, ‘New Knowledge’, ‘The Anthology of Cho-sun poets’, which framed the enlightenment of modern knowledge and organized the modern poetry through media and personal intermediation in those days. He experimented with the function of media through directly publishing his works on media as well as doing the role of personal intermediation. He well knew the attribute of media in 1920s imposed on problems such as Japanese inspection, increasing the number of readers, knowledge enlightenment, etc, and these experiences greatly reflected on his media’s plan and the creation of his works. Japanese inspection oppressing media like magazine or newspaper and his revolutional passion as a leader of 3.1 Independence Movement in Daegu were likely to cause the cracking of text at any moment. However he tried to overcome it using various poetical strategies.
He wrote the poems as pose of anguish and resistance against reality, and they well showed the various activities of publishing media of 1920s.
