The purpose of this study was to obtain the data for developing the techniques and improving the speed of hurdle race. The subjects of this study were six male hurdler consisted of college students and noncollege athletes. they were divided into two groups, skilled athletes and unskilled athletes respectively. The fifth, ninth, hurdling were taken by video camera.
The result of analysis is summarized as follows.
1. The time of the skilled athletes were smaller than those of unskilled ones in 5, 9 of all hurdle and the fastest in 9 hurdle. Also the horizontal velocity of each hurdle appeared in 5, 9 hurdle order.
2. The horizontal velocity of the skilled were faster than those of the unskilled in fifth and nineth hurdle and recored the greatest difference in touchdown of the phase 1 and touchdown and take-off phase 3.
3. The angle of center of gravity and angle of trunk of skilled athletes were smaller than those unskilled all were inefficient because of appearing large, the nearer they came to the last hurdle.
4. The angle of the knee of skilled athletes was smaller than that of unskilled in touchdown and larger than in take-off.
As the result, for effective hurdling, it is necessary to increase horizontal velocity of preflight. It is necessary to increase horizontal velocity of touchdown in phase 1 and phase 3. It is necessary to increase the horizontal velocity of decrease angle of center of gravity, angle of trunk.
