The purpose of this study was to investigate whether regular exercise could affect mental health positively in adult. It was hypothized that: there is significant difference in mental health (anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and life-satisfaction) between regular exercises according to exercise time, frequence, and duration.
2,000 adult men and women above 20 years old, who living in Seoul, were employed as subjects in Seoul. Data were also collected by making phone calls at the sports club in the same region. 17'21 out of 1743 answeres were utilized as data.
The reliabity of instruments which was used in this study was as follow: Self-rating Anxiety Scale for Zung(197l) a=.8561, Self-rating Depression Scale for Zung & Durham(1965) a=.8061, Self-Esteem Seal for Rosenberg(1965) a=.7465, Life Satisfaction Index-Well being for Bigot(1974) a=.7741.
Data were analyzed by Three Way ANOVA according to the purpose of the study. Tukey HSD(was used as follow-up test.
The result showed that: subjects who engaged in exercise more than 5 years got low anxiety and depression level and high self-esteem leve. There was not significant difference in mental herth factors according to exercise frequenct and time. Continuance of exercise, therefore, affected mental health, but frequency and time did not affect mental health.
