The use of construction waste as a source of aggregate for the production of new concrete has increased in the recent decade. Although many studies were reported on material properties, workability of recycled aggregate concrete, there are no appropriate design recommendations for structural members using recycled aggregate concrete. In this paper, six reinforced concrete beams using recycled aggregate were tested to evaluate their failure modes, behavior characteristics, shear behavior and crack pattern of reinforced concrete beams with shear failure mode. In this study, all specimen have a cross sectional area of 170×270 ㎟ and net span length of 1,920 mm. Each specimen was simply supported and subjected to four-point loading. The tests were carried out using a displacement control (1.0 mm/min) by a actuator. The variables in the test program were the shear reinforcement and use of recycled aggregate. Based on the test results, shear strength and failure mode of reinforced concrete beams with recycled aggregate were about equal to those of reinforced concrete beams with normal aggregate. Also, shear strength of recycled aggregate concrete beams were compared with ACI code, AIJ code and proposed equation by Zsutty. Shear strength of recycled aggregate concrete beams were higher than that provided in ACI code. Based on the experimental results, reinforced concrete beams with recycled aggregate used within this study can be possible to apply to structure.
