The modern intellectuals revered a book as saint things. Because they took books as a tool of enlightment and as a step to strengthen a nation in early modern times. So a book was not only reading materials. Rather than, it was a key to answer the question what they were.. Especially, After the literature was separated from the region of knowledge and science, at the same time, it was recognized as the region of aesthetic autonomy, the book was laid as a metaphoric icon of sprit and mentality.
Modern poets bore book in their heart symbolically as like the Celt's Holy Grail. They vested the book with the scearedness and thought the book was the very world. Park Younghee connected the motive 'moon' and 'the beautiful girl', at which he granted the girl the holiness. The girl was the very book. And Leem Hwa regarded the book as the mental sanctum of the socialism movement in 1930's. In addition to it, Kim Kirim made out it as the motif of 'sea' and the maternity world in the late 1930's.
1950's poets were ardent admirers as like the poets in the Japanese occupation. So was Park Inwhan. He wrote the poem 'a book and a landscape'. In the poen, he described the intellectuals' inside with which connected 'the Korean War'. And it was shown a book consoled human on a war's gash. Just some books only bore the beautiful world and they delivered such world to human. It meant 1950's intellectuals strongly tried to separted 'the book world' from 'a real world'. By doing it, they could forget the war's pain.
