This article attempts to confirm how the Mongols had treated the Goryoin(高麗人) and that the Goryoin(高麗人) had strived positively to approve their position equivalent of Saekmokin(色目人) during the Yuan Period.
The Goryo(高麗) served the Yuan differently from which it had served to the Song Dynasty, to the Khitan Liao Dynasty, and to the Jurchen Jin Dynasty. The relations between Goryo and the Song, between Goryo and the Khitan Liao Daynaty, and between Goryo and the Jurchen Jin Daynasty were even though subordinate but very loosened. So Goryo could preserve its own state systems. On the contrary, the Goryo was subjugated the Mongols fast completely.
On the other side Goryo had special relations to the Imperial Family of Yuan Dynasty. But it couldn't help to receive preferential treatment from the Mongols. According to the status system of the Mongols, Goryoin belonged to the third status with the Chinese, Balhae people, Khitan Liao people, the Jurchens. Goryo joined forces with the Imperial Yuan which the Mongols attacked the Japan and calmed down the civil war. And also Goryo payed various tributes to the Yuan Dynasty. And then Goryo made petition repeatedly for the same position as Saekmokin to the Yuan Government without no result.
As insignificant it seems, the controversy over the treatment of Goryoin is important. It reflects the plain-centered ruling principle and the mentality of reigning over Goryo of the Mongols. Under the power of Yuan, Goryo was forced to yield to Yuan for self-preservation.
