The paper purposes to study of the political implications of tariff policy in contemporary China. China has the special characteristic political structure. The tariff policy has been influenced by political implications not by economic logic.
The paper is divided three parts: first are the background theory approaches for tariff policy: they are economic elements, political, ideological and party model elements, and traditional cultural model elements. Second are the characteristics of current tariff policy are explained. At last, the political implications of tariff policy are considered in two parts: national and international elements.
In conclusion, I suggest that tariff policy cannot only be understood by economic elements, and political implications are the origins and the most important elements to decide tariff policy.
