The basic argument of this paper is whether or not the study of Christian education can be merged with practical theology in the Korean context. This attempt leads us to reconceptualize the mission and the task of Christian education in terms of the authentic meaning and function of practical theology and work together as a symbiotic partner both in academia and in the field of the Christian ministry. Today the two areas in Korea have gone too far away from their original mission. Up until the last century, both were narcissistic with their own academic premise; furthermore they were proud of new approaches to the modern growing church. However, over the last thirty years, it is generally thought that these two areas were passive in integrating or exchanging their academic and ecclesial efforts. Thus, academic dialogues between two disciplines are urgently needed especially within the context of ministerial formation.
