I analyzed the listener inside his Buddhist Gasa works and the way of colloquy, the contents of his Buddhist Gasa works, his thinking style in order to study on the structural characteristics of Jihyeog(智瑩)’s Buddhist Gasa(佛敎歌辭).
The first, in the aspect of the listener inside his Buddhist Gasa works, there were two kinds of listener: the ideal listeners and the real listeners. The writer Jihyeog used the name of ideal listeners, for example, wise manㆍbrave manㆍgood guy more open than the name of real listeners, for example, foolish man. The reason why he mainly used the name of ideal listeners is to make the listeners follow his Buddhist teaching voluntarily by stimulating their wish to identify with the ideal listeners by themselves.
The second, in the aspect of the way of colloquy, he used the ordering and requesting narration to let the listeners hear his teachings or to realize Buddhist virtues in the sentences in which the listeners are appearing differently to his using emphasizing narration to let the listeners understand what the law of cause-effect is, how to practice the Buddhist virtues in order to conquer the pain of transmigration of the soul.
The third, in the aspect of the contents of his Buddhist Gasa works, he expressed four kinds of very important theses in his all Buddhist Gasa works: the law of cause-effect and no pain of cause-effect, good conducts and conducts without good and bad sides, chanting and original my being Amitapa Buddha(自性彌陀), Seon meditation and enlightenment including many data related with them.
The forth, in the aspect of his thinking style, four kinds of very important theses are based on his dualistic thinking and unitary thinking. Four kinds of very important theses have two sides. The law of cause-effect and good conducts, chanting, Seon meditation are based on his dualistic thinking, in other side, no pain of cause-effect and conducts without good and bad sides, original my being Amitapa Buddha(自性彌陀), enlightenment are based on his unitary thinking.
