This study surveyed fairy-tale genre in Japan centering on the days from the quickening period in Japanese children literature to the days right after 1945 when a war came to an end in Japan, and then considered about characteristics of acceptance into Korea. What the children literature in Japan was settled as one of independent genres is from Meiji Era(1868-1912). Since then, the genre and its relevant terminology on the children literature had been reflected a flow of new era in the middle of the rapidly-changing situation following the modern times. As the criticism and alternative plan for the preceding terminology, it passed through the process of being substituted and circulated new terminology. The accumulation of the times has been made while being formed the repeated transformative process reaching up to now.
Bang Jeong-hwan, who had enrolled even in university while having come and gone to Korea and Japan during the days from 1920 to 1923, met with the period that energized the most in the history of Japanese children literature. In the period that the literary and artistic children literature, which was conscious of young rationality in Japan, collided dynamically while being stood for 'fairy tale,' Bang Jeong-hwan accepted what is popular and what is artistic into Korea while resolutely carrying out the drastic editing.
In the course of proceeding with being accepted and settled all the artistic fields including culture and literature is complexly reflected the social image at that time and a demand and hope of the masses in its period, not a flow by blind acceptance or infusion on one side or by unilateral pressure or coercion. Plus, through accepting the foreign culture, the traditional aspect in its race is reinstated and re-included amid a flow of new era, and is re-evaluated its value. This study tried to examine its significance with the focus on a genre theory in the history of Korean-Japanese modern children literature.
