The purposes of this study was to develop a marketing communication scale in the professional baseball that facilitates a team"s competitiveness by establishing marketing strategies. In order to accomplish such study purpose, initial factors and items were developed on the basis of literature review and experts" content validity analysis. Then, a survey was conducted with a total of 501 valid subjects to validate the scale. For the validation of scale, a series of statistical analyses were conducted including descriptive statistics such as mean, standard deviation, skewness, kurtosis, exploratory factor analysis, correlation analysis and confirmatory factor analysis. As a result, the final scale consisted of 4 factors with 14 items.
In specific, the marketing communication scale included four factors such as PR, online communication, community relations and personnel selling. PR included 4 items such as media PR and words of mouth PR, and online communication included variety of information, interactivity and responsiveness. Meantime, community relations included community service, baseball development and community image improvement. Finally, personnel selling included items such as personnel"s service levels, players" communication levels with fans and coaches" communication levels with fans. In conclusion, the proposed scale was successfully validated, and it is meaningful that current study provides a theoretical framework for marketing communication in the field of professional baseball.
