The purpose of this study is to clarify the relationship between social hierarchy and cultural hierarchy and the form found uniquely in South Korean society. Based on data from ‘A Survey on the Cultural Capital of Korean Society’ (2011), this study investigates the correspondence between social hierarchy and cultural hierarchy in the area of cultural activities among Koreans. The analysis is carried out in three steps. First, a questionnaire administered to determine which cultural activities were perceived as the most sophisticated. This produced a cultural hierarchy. Next, Correspondence Analysis of social class and taste in cultural activities were conducted. In addition, Multiple Correspondence Analysis provided a multiphasic mapping of social and cultural hierarchies in Korean society. Finally, the results of the previous analyses were summarized, showing in graphic form the correspondence between Korean cultural and social hierarchies. As a result, this study showed that there exists a correspondence between social hierarchy and cultural hierarchy of Korean society. It affirms that both age and class are important boundaries in the cultural map of Korean society.
