There has been no such generation to witness this magnitude of revolution of this frequency. We are standing right at the beginning of a paradigm shift in manufacturing which, until now, has remained considerably unyielding and slow to change. As digital fabrication machines proliferate quickly, CAD data itself becomes increasingly sellable. What used to exist only to be manufactured as tangible objects now seen as a marketable commodity. Market shift from business to personal computer in the 70s suggests gradual direction change in market strategy from industrial manufacturing machines to personal fabrication. A group of people called “the makers”, who bring objects into existence driven by the motivation to achieve mastery and share, are thrilled to own the very versatile means of production called personal fabrication tools for the first time in history. In the midst of this reformation, the ones who lead innovation will not be those who are interested in financial benefit from invention but who are interested in inventing, thus gaining financial benefit.
