The analytic hierarchy process (AHP) is a structured technique to organize a decision problem with its elements and a rational process to calculate numerical priorities of the decision alternatives. This study aims to analyze the importances of various SCM adoption factors by using AHP. Based on the previous researches on SCM adoption, we conducted AHP analysis for small-to-medium-sized enterprises(SMEs) in mechanical industry. SCM adoption factors were grouped into five categories: information management, support for activation, partnership, planning and collaboration, and performance management. The 58 SCM managers of total 200 samples in Daegu Metropolitan area responded to the survey .
The findings of this study are summarized as follows: in a criterion level, the importance of partners(0.2395) ranked the highest and information management(0.2232), planning and collaboration(0.2167), support for activation(0.1865), performance management(0.1341) followed. Top five priority criteria in the global level are as follows: mutual trust between supplier and purchaser(0.1118), IT usages on business transaction(0.1060), CEO’s commitment(0.0928), IT-based SCM investment(0.0720), and collaborative response(0.0691). Further analysis of the study suggests that each company needs different strategies to implement and operate SCM because each company has different priority in SCM adoption factors based on its relative position in the value-chain of the mechanical industry.
