In this study I attempt to investigate how the syntactic environment of future marker can affect the choice of future construction. For this investigation, the relevant data are accessed and they are shown to draw some traits of English future construction, be going to and will. How are the frequencies of the future marker different according to the times and registers? In the context of negation and double modal verb construction, which future marker is more frequently chosen? In which contexts, is the contraction form gonna, won’t or ’ll preferred? To what extent are there co-relations between future marker distributions and their syntactic environment? This study provides the quantitative evidence of corpora to those questions and tries to elicit the characteristics of the constructions which involve future markers.
