This paper claims that since metonymy exists in human thought and cognition, it can structure our action. It also emphasizes that the metonymic concept has a foundation in our daily physical experience and our interaction with the world. Most of the research has been focused on conceptual structure. This paper examines how conceptual metonymy is applied to noun-noun compounds, analyzing the range of metonymy within compounds using conceptual blending networks. For this purpose, chapter 2 is centered on the definition and the categories of conceptual metonymy, the main subjects of the structure and classification of compounds, and the conceptual blending theory which is the framework of the semantic composition of compounds. Chapter 3 has a thorough classification of the metonymic compounds` semantic composition, according to how metonymy can act upon compounds in four ways: (1) on the modifier; (2) on the head; (3) on both constituents of the compound; (4) on the compound as a whole. In this chapter, we analyze the meaning construction of each example of these four types of metonymic compounds in terms of conceptual blending theory.
