The main goal of this paper is to justify a focus-movement of NP in accordance with the probability of scrambling NPs. In validating the probability, there have been some conflicting arguments. It is assumed that those arguments could be resolved by theoretical perspectives based on previous studies, which leads this study to first perform an in-depth literature review in the topic. This paper argues that scrambling is not a descriptive phenomenon in the syntactic approach but rather a focus-movement derived by the focus feature. According to syntactic perspectives on the basis of previous studies, EPP features have three aspects: (i) optional movement, (ii) base-generated movement, and (iii) argument movement. However, the syntactic perspective cannot adequately explain scrambling. Therefore, this paper demonstrates that this question and other related ones can easily be explained by the focus-driven movement. One desirable consequence of this approach, in particular, lies in its provision of an empirical evidence that scrambling comprises focus-driven rather than optional movement. At the end of this study, made are some implications for future studies relevant to this topic.
