In 660.11, Goguryeo attacked Territory of Silla which named Chiljungseong Fortress[Paju-si Jeokseong-myeon in Gyeonggi-do]. Goguryeo occupied the Chiljungseong Fortress using the time Silla"s main force Subdued recovery of Baekjae. But Goguryeo Give up sovereignty of Chiljungseong Fortress. Because There geographical conditions was disadvantageous to defense. In 661.5, Goguryeo reattacked Bukhansanseong Fortress [Gwanggin-gu in Seoul]. That Battle ended in a Victory for Silla.
In 660.11~662.2, The second War broke out between Goguryeo and Tang. At this time Tang organized 6 Armed forces 35 Battalion. In 661.8, Su Dingfang"s army occupied the Wido. There was strategic position in Daeryeonggang and Cheongcheongang basin. After this, Su Dingfang"s army Into Pyeongyangseong and laid siege to go there. Yeon gaesomun dispatched main force to the Amnokgang. At this time, because Amnokgang was froze Tang"s army crossed the river. Finally Goguryeo"s 30,000 military suffered annihilation. By the way, Tang was withdrawn from the Amnokgang basin. Because unexpected riot of Cheolleuk had Tang. As time goes on, Su Dingfang"s army was isolated. Finally Su Dingfang"s army had to request for assistance from Silla.
In 661.8, King Munmu(r. 661~681) went to the Wongjin Fortress with Troops for the relief of Tang"s army. In that process, Kim Yu-sin led the Battle of Ongsan Fortress[Boeun-gun Hoein in Chungcheongbuk-do] to victory. Also King Munmu spent the provisions to Su Dingfang"s army in Pyeongyangseong. Kim Yu-shin, assumed the mission. As a result, Su Dingfang"s army return to Tang safely.
