College students are a growing market in the travel industry; however, their travel motivations have received limited attention in tourism research. Motivations are the fundamental forces that stimulate and direct travel behavior, and in response to this, this research was designed to explore motivation factors influencing Korean college students for international travel through applying the push-pull factor framework. The push-pull framework is not a new concept and has been used to determine Western students’ motivations for travel; however, it has not been applied much to Korean college students’ motivation for international travel. A survey was designed and handed to students at a Korean college in the city of Daejeon in 2016. Through explanatory factor analysis, and further confirmed by confirmatory factor analysis, nine factors within the push-pull model were generated. Four push factors consisting of 18 items and five pull factors consisting of 18 items were examined. The research resulted in a more comprehensive picture of the travel motivations, as well as the significant practical implications for developing effective strategies to target this important travel market. The study provides valuable information for governments, tour operators, and colleges, and due to this has the potential to generate billions of dollars in the college markets.
