Recently, the concept of transnational economics has emerged due to the development of communication and transportation. And new urban system concept was emerged which called network city. The network city is an alternative concept to the central theory that has relatively independence within a certain cluster and has a positive effect on urban growth.
In addition, due to the growth of the city, the spatial structure of the city has changed more complexly, and suburbanization has occurred. The phenomenon of suburbanization has been related with the development of transportation, which has increased commuting distance. The increase in commuting distance and suburbanization has resulted in social, economic and environmental problems such as traffic congestion and air pollution.
Previous studies have focused on negative aspects such as sprawl caused by suburbanization. However, there is an opinion that the suburbanization can be viewed as a metropolitanization, and there is an opinion that the network of the suburban city and the central city are ignored. In particular, the development of traffic plays an important role in the network, and the importance of the network in the urban planning has been increasing in order to improve the competitiveness of the metropolitan area. But network elements tend to be ignored, and only negative aspects are highlighted.
So this study analyzes the effect of long distance commuting on urban growth caused by suburbanization on suburban cities.
