Purpose: This study was to investigate how mothers who were caring for adults with developmental disabilities experience changes. Methods: This study was qualitative research applying grounded theory methodology. The participants were 17 mothers who cared for adult children with developmental disabilities in C city. The data was analyzed by Strauss & Corbin (1998) in the grounded theory. Results: Data analysis resulted in 41 concepts, 16 subcategories, and 6 categories; The casual condition was ‘recognizing separation of life from their child’, Central phenomenon was to ‘recover self.’ Contextual condition was ‘recognizing the barriers to self-recovery’, Intervening condition was ‘forming and using a support base’. Action/interaction strategy was ‘seeking a way to expand the redeemed self’, The result of utilizing this action/interaction strategy was ‘reestablishing your own life’. Conclusion: The core categorization of mothers who care for children with developmental disabilities was the process of living in a meaningful existence together with child ". The process of living with a child in a meaningful being is the process of establishing a mother"s identity and living a self-esteem life changes the center of life into oneself.
