As a historical and cultural city with a long history of Gaya. Gimhae is a city where past and present coexist and you can enjoy history exploration, tourism and leisure. Gimhae holds four main annual festivals including Gaya Cultural Festival, Gimhae National Folk Bull-Fighting Contest, Gimhae Ceramics Festival, Jinyeong Sweet Persimmon Festival. Being held for more than 20 years in 2017, all four festivals have been settled in Gimhae since long ago and the festivals are promoted by presenting a new poster design every year.
In 2015, Gimhae selected 100 Gimhae phenomenon colors, 50 Gimhae local colors, 10 Gimhae representative colors and 10 Gimhae symbol colors and Gimhae basic colors to establish Gimhae city color and presented color planning guidelines in 2016. The city festival guideline analyzed existing festival poster colors, proposed patterns and poster design suitable for each festival and established recommended color palette that can be freely used in the range of the phenomenon color or local color depending on the festival theme or contents.
This study found out the correlation with color of Gimhae by analyzing existing poster images and colors from 2010 to 2016 around Gaya Cultural Festival, Gimhae National Folk Bull-Fighting Contest, Gimhae Ceramics Festival, Jinyeong Sweet Persimmon Festival, which are representative festivals in Gimhae and identifying the present situation. As a result, the Gaya Cultural Festival had no color consistency, no festival identity color, and was designed with a focus on images. Gimhae National Folk Bull-Fighting Contest also shows primitive bull fighting image and red, blue-based colors are old-fashioned. Jinyeong Sweet Persimmon Festival poster shows the image of persimmon directly and has no color consistency. On the other hand, Gimhae Buncheong Ceramics Festival poster has a relatively higher completion than that of other festivals, but the festival elements are strong in color, but the feelings of Buncheong are somewhat lacking.
All four festivals lack each festival’s own identity and show images of realistic photographs rather than colors. Thus, it is difficult to find a link between the colors used in the poster and the color plan guidelines proposed in 2016 but in the future, it is necessary to select the identity color among the recommended colors of each festival according to the urban festival color guidelines and to construct the color consistency and integration in the poster by using the recommended colors according to the theme and content of each festival. We also propose various forms of poster activation ways to use festival posters in digital as well as prints.
