It is well known that doping nanoparticle (NP) in liquid crystals (LCs) can change the physical properties of the LC host. In this study, we demonstrate the size effect of NPs on the optical and alignment characteristics of NPs/LC mixture. Homeotropic LC alignment states were achieved regardless of the NPs doped in the LC mixture. In addition, LC orientation and pretilt angles of LC mixtures were not affected by NP size.
