This study aimed to suggest the future direction of local festivals by revealing differences in local residents" perception of festivals in accordance with the distance between the festival site and their residence. After classifying the local residents of Dongdaemun-gu, where Seonnong Ancestral Rites were held, into three groups in accordance with the distance between the festival site and their residence, a survey on the local residents" perception of the festival, the effects of the festival on the community, and the factors that could vitalize the festival was conducted and analyzed. In the results of analysis, regarding the local residents" perception of Seonnong Ancestral Rites, the effects on the local residents" perception of Seonnong Ancestral Rites, and the community were higher when the distance was closer. On the other hand, the effects were lower when the distance was longer. In case of the measures for the vitalization of Seonnong Ancestral Rites, it was mostly high regardless of the distance to the residence even though there were differences in accordance with the factors of vitalization. It means that even the residents in the same region could have different perception in accordance with the distance between the festival site and their residence. The significance of this study is to consider the necessity of the measures for the whole local residents to be able to cognize the festival in balance for vitalizing the festival.
