The Korean Academy of Prosthodontics was established in Seoul, Korea in 1959 and has published The Journal of Korean Academy of Prosthodontics annually since 1960. The journal had been published as four Korean issues and two English issues a year for some period.
The Journal of Advanced Prosthodontics was published as the main English journal of The Korean Academy of Prosthodontics in the 50th Anniversary year, 2009, and is now being published 4 times (February, May, August, and November) a year. The Journal of Advanced Prosthodontics aims to convey scientific and clinical progress in the field of oral and Maxillofacial rehabilitation in terms of function and aesthetics and its related areas to many dental communities concerned with esthetic and functional restorations, occlusion, implants, prostheses, and biomaterials related to prosthodontics. This journal accommodates original research data of high scientific merit in the field of diagnosis, function, esthetics and stomatognathic physiology related to prosthodontic rehabilitation, physiology and mechanics of occlusion, mechanical and biologic aspects of prosthodontic materials including dental implants, review articles by experts on controversies and new developments in prosthodontics, and case reports which provide or document new fundamental knowledge.
However, the revolution of “Prosthodontics” to “Advanced Prosthodontics” is imperatively necessary due to the rapid development of science and technology, especially biology driven scientific developments, digital technologies including CAD/CAM, socio-medical therapeutic concepts, evidence based practice (EBP) introduced formally in 1992 and treatment outcomes based on patients’ quality of life. Therefore, The Journal of Advanced Prosthodontics will endeavor to extend the scope comprehensively in following areas; 1. Fixed/removable and maxillofacial prosthodontics, 2. Occlusion, orofacial pain and TMDs, and systemic health science, 3. Biology on the jaw bone, teeth, and soft tissues, 4. Biomaterials, implants, and dental materials, 5. Regenerative medicine and tissue engineering, 6. Equipment and technologies related to prosthodontics, and 7. Clinical evidence of prosthodontic rehabilitation.
The Journal of Advanced Prosthodontics was accepted as a SCI(E) journal from Thompson Reuter in September, 2012. Therefore, the journal can now be indexed/tracked/covered by PubMed, PubMed Central (PMC), KoreaMed, Synapse, KoMCI, CrossRef, SCI, and Google Scholar, which will be a great pleasure for authors, readers, reviewers, and editorial members. On behalf of the editorial board members of the journal, I really would like to express deep gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Sung-Hun Kim, Editor-in-Chief, for his devotion and heartfelt effort to upgrade this journal from the beginning. I sincerely hope that The Journal of Advanced Prosthodontics will contribute to communicate among scientists and clinicians related to oral biology and health science worldwide and also to upgrade the level of advanced prosthodontic research, achieving the final goal of improvement in patients’' quality of life.
