Research of Mongolian Noun Phrase (NP) is an important part of Mongolian Language Information Processing (MLIP) work. In this paper, the author manually extracts Mongolian NPs from the training set of Mongolian corpus, builds a Mongolian NP bank, and makes two kinds of classification of Mongolian NPs based on their features of structure and function. In advantage of the structural and functional classifications, Mongolian NP phrase structure (PS) rule-bank has been set up by using the part of speech (POS) features and the different grammatical forms of Mongolian NP’s constituents. The PS rules are expressed in Phrase Structure Grammar’s (PSG) rewriting rules augmented by multiple features. It is an important knowledge base for MLIP. The author also makes a description about its four kinds of applications in Mongolian language corpus building and processing, Mongolian language automatic syntactic analysis, Mongolian language understanding by computer, and machine translation research related to Mongolian language.
