Understanding the importance of addressing the issue of social stratification in the pervasive and growing disparity between the affluent and the poor, the present study examined the influence of social class on the relationships between leisure identity, leisure constraints and participation. The results of invariance testing demonstrated that the significant moderating effect of social class is present in the intensity of the associations between leisure identity, leisure constraints and participation. That is, the extent to which leisure identity and leisure constraints interact to stimulate leisure participation vary by social class. The findings were discussed in light of previous work on constraints and the psychological perspective on social class.
