This article was written for the purpose of analyzing the bonding patterns of potential complement "kan+bu+X" structure which is commonly used in modern Chinese. We analyzed the semantic features and the conceptual blending process of ‘kan+bu+X" with the theory of cognitive linguistics. The results of the above analysis are summarized as follows.
First, "kan" and "X" must have elements in common in their respective conceptual categories so that they can be linked and combined. "kan+bu+X" can be seen as a blend structure with a cause event that is "actor+kan" and an abstract motion event that is "actor/subject+bu+X". The special examples of "kan+bu+X", which has the properties of idioms, is believed to have expanded its meaning as a whole into a new expression after above blending process.
Second, the higher the conceptual blending grade of the "kan+bu+X" structure, the more abstract its meaning, the more limited the component replacement, the higher the degree of lexicalization.
