This study reviewed premodern history contents for high school Korean history in the 2022 Revised Curriculum. The premodern history part takes up two out of six main topics, and the ratio of premodern history to contemporary history is 1:2. Compared to the ratio of 1:3 in the 2018 Revised Curriculum, the ratio for 2022 slightly increased. The two main topics of premodern history are thematic history and general history, focusing on political history. The thematic history explored the timely and structural characteristics and issues of each theme. Although these are considered strengths compared to the 2018 Revised Curriculum, it still lacks organic connection between the thematic histories same as the previous curriculums. The fact that only five sub-topics were assigned also needs to be improved. It does not clearly address the problems in periodization in Korean history and uses temporary and expedient periodization, and this should be improved, too. The previous curricula were criticized for focusing on exploring national identity as a part of national education. Still, they fail to suggest a new goal for premodern history education. It’s time to think about the meaning and value of premodern history once again. The direction for improving future curriculums should start with discussing the meaning and value of premodern history.
