Background: As the Korean population continues to age, the relationship between age-related diseases and albuminuria has emerged as a topic of interest. While studies on the relationship between albuminuria and muscle mass in the Korean population have been published, the same regarding hand grip strength (HGS) are lacking. Therefore, this study examined the relationship between HGS and albuminuria. Methods: This study analyzed 3,080 participants over 40 years of age who were measured for HGS and urine albumin within the 2019 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. A weakened HGS was defined by body mass index and sex, while albuminuria was confirmed using the urine albumin-creatinine ratio. The relationship between HGS and albuminuria was determined using multiple logistic regression analysis. Results: The 3,080 study subjects included 1,317 (42.8%) males and 1,763 (57.2%) females with a mean age of 59.1±11.7 and 58.9±11.5 years, respectively. The prevalence of albuminuria was 152 (11.5%) and 154 (8.7%) in males and females, respectively. In a multiple logistic regression analysis adjusted for confounding variables, the risk of albuminuria was significantly higher among both sexes in the group with a weakened HGS (male: odds ratio [OR], 1.92; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.16–3.17; female: OR, 1.67; 95% CI, 1.09–2.56). In the subgroup analysis, it was significant in male aged 40 to <70 years (OR, 2.16; 95% CI, 1.07–4.37) but not in other groups. Conclusion: This study’s findings suggest that weakened HGS is associated with albuminuria among male aged 40 to <70 years.
