Sport has the potential to bring divided nations together. However, it can also cause or exacerbate tensions, conflicts, and non-peace. In addition, the recent increase in sport exchanges between South and North Korea offers a unique opportunity to investigate the changing role and efficacy of sport diplomacy and sport politics. The purpose of this study was to review previous studies concerning sports exchange programs between North and South Korea, and to propose possible ways of developing successful sport exchange programs. This study proposed 7 strategies in relation to sport exchanges between South and North Korea by utilizing an integrative review method. First, a written agreement for sport exchanges between South and North Korea needs to be prepared in a sustainable way. Second, youth sport, college sport, life-long sport activities as well as elite sports should be exchanged. Third, sport related business needs to be established to produce sport products at Kyesung Industry Complex. Fourth, a special team needs to be established to integrate sport exchange programs of South and North Korea. Fifth, diverse media need to be utilized to increase the effect of sport exchange programs and to maximize the image of Korea peninsular. Sixth, organizations are needed to share and disseminate ideas and informations concerning sport related knowledge of South and North Korea. Seventh, the sport exchange programs should be designed to contribute to the benefits of economic growth of North and South Korea by connecting sport tourism and environmental promotion.
