Refrigeration cycle design by a virtual concept has always been a major subject of many of engineers and manufacturers. Issues should be the question of how close to simulate to the real world by virtual ways. Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) or Model Based Design (MBD) in a digital modelling environment provides a methodology to make a virtual model easily. Now, we have much of engineering platforms and tools to make a strong simulation model, where are sufficient interfacing technology to communicate well for multiple physics, different dimensions and different language codes. In the study, I will share my experience to virtual product design for a refrigeration cycle, which are architecting, multiple physics, 1D/3D co-simulation and how virtual mock up works with control strategy. The dynamic behavior of a VRF heat pump cycle is becoming very complicate, making it hard to simulate with a simple model. The heat pump cycle, which is the object of analysis, has multiple outdoor units and various types of indoor unit combinations, long and complicated piping configuration, simultaneous cooling and heating functions, and heating operation at lowtemperature regions. Under these conditions, a dynamic model that have to predict the refrigerant mass flow rate, temperatures and pressures over time goes on by reflecting instantaneous dynamic changes is required. In the study, dynamic model, using Modelica, a non-causal object-oriented modeling language, shows reasonably low errors when compared with the experimental data.
