This study analyzes Kil Sun-ju’s eschatology and his influence on the Korean Presbyterian Church. It explores how he developed his unique eschatological perspective through Bible study and spiritual training, despite dispensational influences, examining his major work “Malsehak.”
While previous studies characterized his eschatology as fundamentalist and influenced by foreign missionaries, the core of his thought remains underexplored. This research conducts a detailed analysis of “Malsehak,” comparing it with other works including 〈末世學〉 from the Pyeongyang Presbyterian Theological Seminary.
The study examines how Kil Sun-ju’s radical apocalyptic eschatology offered hope through his theories of resurrection and heaven. His emphasis on advent beliefs guided the Korean church toward evangelical mission and salvation under Christ’s sovereignty.
This work contributes fresh perspectives on Korean church history by revealing the foundational thoughts behind Kil Sun-ju’s eschatology, including its connection to the independence movement.
