In this paper we investigated channel estimation schemes for MC-CDMA system in downlink multipath channel. A pilot-channel assisted channel estimation scheme and a pilot-subcarrier assisted one have been considered and MRC, EGC and ORC have been used for a combining method. Each channel estimation scheme has some merits and disadvantages, therefore a proper channel estimation scheme should be selected for a specific application environment. er conveys a low rate, that is, narrow band signal which experiences flat fading channel. If such subcarriers distribute over frequency range exceeding coherence bandwidth, that is, fading channel is frequency selective, not all of the subcarriers are located in a deep fade in frequency and consequently achieve frequency diversity. In single carrier DS-CDMA (direct sequence code division multiple access) systems, we could take advantage of multi-path propagation by using RAKE receiver which is capable of resolving each path. But in MC-CDMA systems utilization of multi-path propagation can be achieved by channel equalization in frequency domain, which is able to be implemented easily by one-tap multiplier at each subcarrier. In order to apply proper channel equalization, exact channel estimation is necessary. In this paper, we consider two types of channel estimation scheme, which are a pilot-channel assisted method and a pilot-subcarrier assisted one, and investigate their performance in downlink multipath channel.
