The purpose of this study was to investigate Characteristics in Korean modern Sport.
I investigated Characteristics in Korean modern sport which was related from the opening-harbour (1876) to the period 1910 before and after western sports were introduced and settled.
The Characteristics of modern sport can be identified as follows ;
1) Enlightenment : From Gab O Kyung Chang in 1894 each modern school accepted modern sport from western cultures and held athletic meetings.
2) Nationalization : After the open - door policy the consciousness of nationalism was greatly risen in contact with a national crisis in Korean society
3) Educational Elementization : The new awakening on physical education threw light on education for the whole man.
4) Institution and Organization : After Gab O Kyung Chang in 1894 modern schools were established, and gymnastics was accepted and organized in a regular curriculum.
