There is a time to choose a method which a counselor explores unknown world in Christian counseling area where he or she understands and cures his or her clients as well as academic areas. At thi stime, based on empirical world that we already know and experience, metaphorical thinking can be an effective method to reach a domain of an obejct more easily and quickly. In this thesis, the researcher aims to reveal that this fundamental way which has already begun with human civilization has applied in various domains of our everyday life, discussing that it can be applied very usefully in pastoral counseling area from theoretical and practical perspectives.
Metaphor has strength to visualize one’s ambiguous inner wold more clearly and help him or her to handle multiple intrinsic meanings of an object more experimentally, making the counselor have soft and patient mind which can understand and treat his or her clients’ hurt mnid. Such aspects tend to be carried out widely in psychoanalytic approach which stresses on the world of unconsciousness as well as cognitivebehavioral therapy and art therapy areas. In this thesis, the researcher tries to suggest theoretical process and practical methods in which pastoral counselors can utilize therapeutic metaphors more effectively.
