This paper aims to found a theology of wisdom literature in the Old Testament through uncovering the relationship between wisdom and creation in the book of Job. Two tasks of this work are to define cardinal elements of creation theology on the one hand and to scrutinize these elements in Job 3, how they are utilized in wisdom text on the other hand. In order to undertake the tasks, this paper takes three steps of studies. First, Leo Perdue"s book, Wisdom and Creation: The Theology of Wisdom Literature is introduced and evaluated. Three essential hermeneutic factors of wisdom literature emerge: human life, world order, God"s providence. Second, Job 3 and Genesis 1 are compared in their literary structures, which reveal similar motifs and literary patterns. Third, Job 3 itself is analyzed structurally to see how creation motifs work within the text. Job 3 has been considered as an unorthodox laments of the sufferer in which divine creation is totally rejected and annulled. However, this study argues that the text carries out the essential principles of creation theology. Moreover, not only preservation but innovation entertain in Job 3, which demonstrates how the sages of ancient Israel extended the idea of creation to delve into the issues of human beings such as sufferings, maturity, justice and etc. This paper concludes that Job 3, in spite of Job’s seemingly denial of the created world of God, holds on to creation theology as a founding source. Job 3 will unfold how wisdom teachers in the Ancient Israel meditated on human sufferings and how they utilize the inevitable experience of losses into an instrument for a new learning about God.
