The supply of fish meal and fish oil for aquafeed is finite. Due to the rapid expansion in the farming of carnivorous fish there is an increase in demand for fish meal. Therefore there is an urgency to ensure the sustainability of aquaculture industry which has triggered researchers to investigate on the potential of using plant-based aquafeed as an alternative to traditional fish meal-based feed. Commercial legumes, such as soybean, have been studied and, due to their high protein content, have been used extensively. However, studies on the suitability of alternative underutilised legumes as aquafeed ingredients is scarce. Although legumes are generally high in protein, they also contain anti-nutritional factors (ANFs) that might reduce the ability of fish to utilise the nutrients they contain. Hence, prior to the application of underutilised legumes as potential aquafeed ingredients, this study was carried out to determine the types of ANFs present in legumes with the long-term aim o ... 전체 초록 보기
