This study examined the relationship between the physical and psychological climate of the classroom and school violence among Korean elementary students. The physical climate of the classroom was measured by class size. The psychological climate of the classroom was measured by the learning climate and psychological support from peers and teachers. The data used was part of a longitudinal study, “Actual Status and the Quality of School Education in Korea,” collected in 2011, using 12,242 elementary school students nationwide. Hierarchical multiple regression was performed to investigate the main purpose of this study. As predicted, the results revealed that the larger the class size, the more violent behavior occurred in the classroom. However, to our surprise, classrooms with a distracted learning climate had lower frequency levels of violence. Furthermore, classrooms with high psychological support from peers and teachers had higher levels of school violence. Implications for the results are discussed with a few suggestions for Christian educators.
