This study is research on Christian camping as a temporary learning community. The first part of this paper defines camping as a temporary learning community, dealing with traditional definitions of camping and contemporary theory of learning organizations. First of all, this section reviews Christian Camping International’s definition and Slater’s definition of the temporary community. Then, it also covers Senge’s description of the learning organization and concludes that Christian camping is considered to be a temporary learning organization. The second part of this paper covers the three different kinds of theories in educational psychology—Lewin’s field theory, Bandura’s modeling process, and Vygotsky’s zone of proximal development—in order to understand individuals’ learning in a temporary learning organization. In order to elucidate the value of each educational psychology, this section theorizes about educational psychology related to camping practices, using an analytical grid. Its components include: the main educational idea, means, and methods, the nature of students, and the roles of teachers. The last section of this paper portrays a Christian camping environment which is characterized by the roles of teachers and counselors with small group dynamics, experiential learning and life change experiences.
