In the past, automotive security referred to prevention of physical approach such as ‘door lock’. However, as time goes by, the trend of automotive security has been changed from the physical character to very intelligent character. Such change has given hackers chances to attack automotive communication systems. The current automotive communication systems use CAN protocol with a few weak points. First, ID spoofing, second, DDoS attacks and third, Android immortal applications. Vehicles use a number of ECU for the purpose of controlling engine, door lock and handle. The CAN protocol provides signals in a broad-cast way and thus, hackers may access to the relevant signals very easily. In order to attack the automotive communication system, hackers often use widely-used applications such as Android or IOS. If a car owner distributes signals widely through Bluetooth dongle, hackers easily access to the signals and collect and analyze the relevant data and produce particular data for attacking the automotive ECU to transmit the data to ECU and finally control ECU. Therefore, this thesis has proposed a method for preventing such attacks based on personal authentification system and Android terminal.
