The Korean War was a ‘laboratory’ of cold war social science, where U.S. military-academic establishment undertook a series of academic research projects. Research reports of the Human Resource Research Institute(HRRI) on psychological warfare and sovietization during the Korean War was a typical example. In this article, the process of organizing the HRRI research team and the production of research material in Korea is examined. It is argued that the process of material production in peripheral areas was a core element in understanding the nature and effect of cold war social scientific research.
