In this study, the researcher attempts to demonstrate that the early philosophical context of contemporary family ministry was influenced by an integrated perspective that did not appear to rely on biblical theology. Even though church ministry to family should be established in God’s noble vision of family and church, the early phase of family ministry naively adopted much of the secular studies. Instead of a careful biblical and theological work on the scriptural teaching, church ministry to family often pursued pragmatic purposes of strengthening families, emphasizing the secular aspects of family life. Such a departure that did not build on the foundation of the biblical teachings has caused the confused contexts of family ministry. Throughout this study, the researcher analyzes the development of a philosophical understanding of family ministry in order to emphasize the need for the biblical foundations of the field.
