This paper studies the fire sequencing problem to minimize the total weighted firing completion time of artillery weapons, and provides effective and efficient solution methodologies to the problem. This paper considers the weapon system composed of various types of guns, and multiple targets to be destroyed. For the problem, a genetic algorithm is derived to provide efficient and effective solutions, and a branch-and-bound algorithm is also developed to find optimal solutions up to the medium-sized problems. Through the extensive computational tests, the performances of the proposed genetic and the branch-and-bound algorithms are evaluated.
